Hounds of Oblivion

I am a creature of need
I feed at the end of this chain
My appetite is too acute
It’s just a defense against this pain
When everything feels dead and everything looks the same
I know the Hounds of Oblivion got my name
I thought in time that it would lift
That black veil from when I was younger
I know now it’s just emptiness
Masquerading as hunger
When the moon and the stars are falling
The Hounds of Oblivion come calling
I kid myself I’m a charmer
With a front that’s so cavalier
But I’m hiding behind this armor
Without it I might disappear
I’m running through life in reverse
To where old memories and hurts unwind
To the site of that primal scene
I’m so afraid of what I might find
I’m in deep and bound to drown
And the Hounds of Oblivion take me down
