Hold On Tightly, Let Go Lightly

A sugar plum falls into your lap
And rouses you from your morning nap
It looks like fortune’s smiled to make your day
Then the summer breeze blows and it rolls away
Hold on tightly, let go lightly
Hold on tightly, let go lightly

Remember the girl that you first kissed
You prayed her passion would persist
But after a season she gave you the sweep
You were bought dear and sold cheap
Hold on tightly, let go lightly
Hold on tightly, let go lightly

Shuffle off your apron strings
And traitor’s doubts
What you lose on the swings
You gain on the roundabouts

From schoolboy to scholar to captain of industry
With advantage and accolades for all to see
I used to put my laurels on parade
But in time they wither and fade
Hold on tightly, let go lightly
Hold on tightly, let go lightly

I’ve spent my life with you, I’ve no regrets
Through years of entrances and exits
To do it all again I would agree
To share this rare and strange history
Hold on tightly, let go lightly
Hold on tightly, let go lightly
