I, I remember the day
It all went away
But it was a long time coming
You, with one hand one the wheel
The shining blue steel
And the sound of the motor humming
We tried to drive in our lane
Ignoring the pain
But we never knew
That lying would shatter our souls
We stuck to our roles
And watched the poison brew

Then, just like an arrest
Gateway to the West
Goodbye, Ohio
Now the life that I lived
Was battered and shivved
But rolling in style-o
We tried to make a new start
Put some arm to our art
Like the pilgrims did
But we didn’t count on the fact
That we’d pay for our act
With our flesh as quid

Check the oil
Check the radiator
Check the tires
Check the gas
Check the lungs
Check the heart
Check the love
Before you pass

I, I don’t know what to say
It all went away
But it was a long time coming
You, with one hand one the wheel
The shining blue steel
And the sound of the motor humming
We tried to drive in our lane
Ignoring the pain
But we never knew
There, on our last family drive
