Clouds Still Hang On You

I drew a map of the world in the palm of your hand
So you’d always know how to find me
But somehow I managed to get lost anyway
With all that I loved far behind me
What could have possessed me to leave your arms?
And into the crowds with such Sturm and Drang
Did I have to find something new?
And clouds still hang on you

I betrayed you too many times
My apologies are as good as a library on fire
There’s no reason to trust me again
And put yourself up on the high wire
Like rain washing away the sun from the sky
Like trees shaking their shrouds where the sweet birds once sang
You disappeared from view
And clouds still hang on you

I drew a map of the world in the palm of your hand
Its lines are faint but they still remain
At least they remain in my head and heart
You may never see them again
I’ll mend my ways as the days go by
And bury the lot that allowed this hurtful pang
That’s the best I can do
‘Til then clouds still hang on you
